January 15, 2020 - Millville and S. Jersey Funfly |
Today was one of those freak January weather days where it is warm, sunny and winds are light. In other words, a perfect flying day. So of course I had to take the day off from work and go flying. I headed out to the airport, changed the oil in the RV, and was just finishing up when Bruce B. pulled up. He hopped in the plane and soon we were heading east towards Millville. Here we are crossing the Delaware River, crossing just south of the Hope Creek Generating Station. |
Then we turned southeast.
I had flown this area just the other day so Bruce was doing the flying today.
Checking out the Cohansey River.
We spotted a couple of bald eagles sitting side by side in that stand of trees.
A big flock of white birds hanging out at the entrance of the Maurice River.
We followed the Maurice River north all the way to Millville Airport.
Safe on deck at Millville Airport.
And award for the most unusual aircraft on the Millville ramp goes to this Polish jet trainer, the PZL TS-11 Iskra.
Bruce excited about visiting the Millville Army Air Force Museum! Millville is not a bad destination for a pilot looking for something to do. In addition to the museum, there is Verna's Flight Line Diner where a delicious breakfast or lunch may be had. |
Millville was a P-47 Thunderbolt advanced training base in World War II. The museum had all sorts of history on the base, photographs, artifacts, exhibits, model airplanes and memorabilia.
I was particularly interested in the high quality plastic model airplanes they had on display.
Who was Major Erich Hartmann? Highest scoring fighter pilot of all time with in incredible 352 victories.
The first jet to engage in combat: the Me-262.
Ready for action!
Heading west across the Chesapeake Bay.
